Perry was born July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut in the television screen as Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in her role on the ABC comedy Roseanne. However, her parents were not keen to let her take on acting roles until she was older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry stated that she was timid to perform during high school, but started performing in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, landing minor parts on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California and find work as an actress in the theater. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. In 2015, she appeared with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Perry was also featured in a role on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. She played the role of a younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off episode that was part of the CBS show The Big Bang Theory was another younger portrayal of her mother. Despite the fact that she has a connection with her family to the character, she was offered the part through an audition.
